The establishment of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta originated from the formation of the Academy of Religious Sciences (ADIA) as a religious academy of the Department of Religious Affairs on June 1, 1957, based on the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, Number 1 of 1957. In subsequent developments, in 1960, based on Government Regulation No. II of 1960 dated August 24, 1960, ADIA merged with PTAIN (Islamic Higher Education Institution) located in Yogyakarta, becoming IAIN Al-Jamiah Al-Hukumiyah, which was inaugurated by the Minister of Religious Affairs in a ceremony at the Yogyakarta Kepatihan Building.

Since the academic year 2000/2001, IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta established the UIN Conversion Program, which offered the study programs of Informatics Engineering, Agribusiness, and Economics. In 2002, based on Presidential Decree No. 31 of 2002 concerning the transformation of IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta into UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, these study programs were transformed into the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (FEIS).

The Mathematics Study Program is one of the eight study programs managed by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The Mathematics Study Program was established in 2002 and formally recognized with the Minister of National Education Decree Number 088796/MPN/O/2001, dated November 22, 2001, and the Directorate General of Islamic Institutions (Bagais) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Decree No. DJ.II/216/2002, dated July 11, 2002. Academic activities commenced in September 2002. In its development, based on academic evaluation results, the Mathematics Study Program obtained an extension of operational permit based on the recommendation of the Directorate General of Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education Decree Number: 4706/D/T/2006, dated December 11, 2006, and an extension of operational permit from the Directorate General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs with Decree No. DJ. I/214/2007 dated May 21, 2007.

The Mathematics Study Program has been accredited with an Excellent accreditation rating based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 5621/SK/BAN-PT/Ak/S/VIII/2022, valid from August 23, 2022, to August 23, 2027. The Mathematics Study Program has also been accredited with an Excellent accreditation rating based on the ASIIN, valid from September 24, 2024, to January 15, 2026.

Pendirian UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta berawal dari dibentuknya Akademi Dinas Ilmu Agama (ADIA) sebagai akademi dinas Departemen Agama pada tanggal 1 Juni 1957, berdasarkan Ketetapan Menteri Agama, Nomor 1 Tahun 1957. Dalam perkembangan selanjutnya, Tahun 1960 berdasarkan PP No II Tahun 1960 tanggal 24 Agustus 1960 ADIA bergabung dengan PTAIN (Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam) yang berada di Yogyakarta menjadi IAIN Al-Jamiah Al-Hukumiyah yang diresmikan oleh Menteri Agama dalam suatu upacara di Gedung kepatihan Yogyakarta.

Sejak tahun ajaran 2000/2001, IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta membentuk Program Konversi UIN yang menyelenggarakan Program Studi (Prodi) Teknik Informatika, Prodi Agribisnis dan Ekonomi. Pada tahun 2002, berdasarkan Keputusan Presiden RI No. 31 Tahun 2002 tentang perubahan IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta menjadi UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta dan Program Studi tersebut berubah menjadi Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi (FST) dan Fakultas Ekonomi dan Ilmu Sosial (FEIS).

Program Studi Matematika merupakan salah satu di antara delapan program studi yang dikelola oleh Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi (FST), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta. PS Matematika berdiri sejak tahun 2002 yang diakui secara formal dengan Surat Keputusan Menteri Pendidikan Nasional Nomor 088796/MPN/O/2001, tanggal 22 November 2001 dan Surat Keputusan Direktorat Jenderal Kelembagaan Islam (Bagais) Departemen Agama No.DJ.II/216/2002, tanggal 11 Juli 2002. Penyelenggaraan kegiatan akademik dimulai pada bulan September 2002. Dalam perkembangannya berdasarkan hasil evaluasi akademik, PS Matematika memperoleh perpanjangan ijin operasional berdasarkan rekomendasi Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi Depdiknas Nomor: 4706/D/T/2006, tanggal 11 Desember 2006 dan perpanjangan ijin operasional dari Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Islam Departemen Agama dengan Surat Keputusan No.DJ. I/214/2007 tanggal 21 Mei 2007.

PS Matematika telah terakreditasi dengan peringkat akreditasi Baik Sekali berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi Departemen Pendidikan Nasional Republik Indonesia Nomor: 5621/SK/BAN-PT/Ak/S/VIII/2022 yang berlaku pada 23 Agustus 2022 s.d. 23 Agustus 2027. PS Matematika juga telah terakreditasi internasional ASIIN mulai 24 September 2024 s.d. 15 Januari 2026.
